Attention Due to a lack of response in the past few weeks the Young Adult Book Drive 4 Rural Libraries will be closing on June 10th. I would like to thank everyone who helped out either by making donations, giving me advice on the website or on where to find books. If you would like to make a final donation it would be very much appreciated. We've managed to collect around 280 books and help five libraries. I am still in possession of some of the donations and will be making the final delivery after the book drive closes. Thank you so much for everything!

Take Care
Jen
YA Book Drive
Amazon Wish List

Wish List

You will find a wish list for book drive girl on Amazon and on Alibris. If you would like to purchase a used book and have it sent directly to me for the book drive that would be wonderful and save you the trip to the post office with your used books. I honestly recommend Alibris, they have amazing deals on used books.

Book Drive Update

I just received an email from an author of young adult books. Cecil Castellucci has said that she will be sending a copy of her books Boy Proof and The Queen of Cool for the book drive. How cool is that!? Boy Proof made the ALA Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers and ALA Best Books for Young Adults. I really hope she doesn't mind me mentioning her name here. Check out her website for more information on her http://www.misscecil.com

I've received a little over a dozen emails from people who are willing to donate to the project. I am working on a Wish List at Amazon in case people would like to purchase some books instead of donating their old teen novels. I'm having some technical difficulties with my Amazon wish list at the moment though. I will post the link to it later.

Anti-gay Oklahoma Library Legislation Passes House

On March 15, the Oklahoma House of Representatives passed 60-33 a bill intended to block funding for any public library unless it removed all materials deemed "sexually explicit" or "homosexually themed" from children's and young adult sections and placed those materials in a special adults-only area. In addition, the bill calls for the creation of a panel charged with developing an annual list of materials that must be so restricted. The bill next makes its way to the Senate, which has not taken up the issue as of yet.

~From the Freedom to Read Foundation newsletter

Hey!

My name is Jen and I am collecting young adult books for the small rural libraries in my area. I am a senior in college, I will graduate this June with a bachelor in literature. In August I will be going to grad school at Clarion University for my Master in Library Science, my ultimate goal is to be a young adult librarian.

I currently work at the David A Howe Library in Wellsville, NY as the interlibrary loan clerk. I started this book drive because of the lack of young adult books at my library. Our children's librarian has a very small budget to work with and spends the majority of it on youth and children's books. I would like to increase our collection and I would love to relocate it to another part of the library. If you would like to donate books please email me at bookdrivegirl@yahoo.com and I will give you an address for where you can send them. I would like to set up a way for people to donate money too if they would like or instead of books but I'm not sure on how to go about that. If you have suggestions please tell me.

Thanks
Jen
